Tony Spillane  MA (Oxon)

Background

After gaining a masters degree in ‘Engineering Sciences’ at Oxford University, Tony worked for ten years at Rolls Royce Cars, in Crewe. During that time, he initiated the use of finite element analysis to solve complex noise and vibration problems.He was also responsible for an electro-hydraulic rig test facility.

On moving to Rover Group, he then worked in Chassis Engineering, managing over thirty technical engineers, Concepts & Strategic Planning, and various other roles.

• Worked on Noise & Vibration, Chassis, Transmissions, Strategic Planning, New Technologies & Innovations
• Set up two new engineering companies (Tech2reality Ltd, and O&S Technology Ltd)

• Created noise & vibration predictive tools, a decade before the rest of the automotive industry
• Established engine mount systems for Rover’s front wheel drive vehicles
• Created various Mini prototypes – the ‘Minki’ vehicles
• Reported to BMW for ‘4x4 Chassis Concepts’
• Inventor of Land Rover’s “Terrain Response System”
• Liaised with Ford, Dearborn on new Chassis Concepts
• Creator of MG Rover’s electric hybrid vehicles (MG TF & Rover 25)
